How to login to desktop instead of the Metro interface in Windows 8?

When you login to your Windows 8, you are taken to the new Metro UI created by Microsoft, instead of the very familiar Windows desktop. Start8, by Stardock Software resolves this problem and allows you to login to your desktop directly instead of the Metro UI in Windows 8, just like you normally login to your desktop in Windows 7.

After you install Start8 in Windows 8, right click on your Windows Start Menu Orb and select “On login go to the desktop“. Now just restart your PC or you can log off and log in back again to see the software in work. If you don’t know what Start8 is read our post How to bring your Start Menu back In Windows 8?.

That is all you have to do to get to your Windows 8 Desktop after login.

Here is a video to demonstrate how to get to your desktop after logging in Windows 8?

Note: If you have installed Start8, the option “On Login go to the desktop” is automatically enabled because Start8 assumes that as you have installed the Start Menu, you are most probably going to access the desktop. However, if you want to access your Metro UI after you login, just uncheck “On Login go to the desktop”. That’s all there is to it.
