Save webpages and notes with Scrapbook for Firefox
Mozilla Firefox has a great set of add-ons which adds to the browser’s functionality. Scrapbook is an add-on which has been my personal favorite for quite some time. It is a simple add-on which allows you to save entire web pages or notes and organize them in folders. Saving an entire webpage will allow you to view it even when you are offline.Scrapbook even lets you to Save as Bookmark. Saved bookmarks are characterized by the green colored font. It contains a built in Full Text Search bar. You can create a New Folder , New Separator or New Note.
You can view any note in a new browser tab by clicking on >> corresponding to the note you are viewing. You can toggle HTML View and Normal View or you can even see both in the same tab. You can Edit HTML Template in order to change the way the note looks in HTML View. Font size can be adjusted and there is a Print option.
Whenever you save a web page a notification is given saying that the page has been saved. When you view a previously saved web page you are given various tools like Highlighter (offers up to four highlighting schemes which can be customized from Tools –> Options –> Edit), Create Sticky Annotation ( you can add a link , attach a file , add an inline annotation or simply add a sticky annotation to any selected text ), Removing the Selection , DOM Eraser( it lets you remove various elements on a page by only a click ) and it allows you to write some comment (the comment area is expandable) about the web page. Any unwanted changes can be undone.
When you click on Combined View (right click on any folder –> Combined View) all the saved web pages are displayed on the same tab. To change the properties of any folder right click on that folder and click on Properties . You can change the icon of any folder , change the title and add some comments.
Under the Tools menu there is an option for Size Calculation which allows you to view the size of each web page or note you have saved on your scrapbook. You can even save multiple URLs.Other options are Output As HTML , Emergency Repair (it allows to to restore your Scrapbook by selecting a backup file) , Import / Export ( it allows to to save web pages or notes to preferred locations ) and Combine Wizard.
Scrapbook is a featured add-on and is a part of the collection Reference Desk (by Mozilla). It is an add-on which no student or researcher can do without.
